Dock Street Brewery in Cedar Park
I'm curious to hear peoples' thoughts about the plan for the Firehouse Market building at 50th and Balitmore. The Cedar Park Neighbors Association put letters in peoples' mailboxes last week announcing that a microbrewery and brick oven pizzeria are going to be put in there. How do people think this is going to impact this rapidly gentrifying area?

I think that it will bring a lot of the people who have recently moved in out of their shell. often in gentrifying neighborhoods, upscale businesses will find a market. it would be aweome if some community groups had been able to get together and rent or buy that space, but we'll have to be more proactive in the future. having said that, i'll probably go in and try the beer.

I use to shop at the firehouse on occasion. I haven't been there inawhile but I have fond memories of the wonderful flavor that its diverse vendors brought to the neighborhood. I don't live in Cedar Park but I do live in West Philly and I am sad that the firehouse is no longer what it use to be The two businesses that will be housed at this location is just another sign of gentrification....but, I am not surprised considering the area. It makes me sad to think that long time residents in areas such as Cedar Park may not be there long to benefit from all the "improvements". That is the sadness of gentrification.....from my perspective. It doesn't afford everyone the opportunity to be a part of the redevelopment of an area....especially if one resided in area in the worst of times only to be sometimes forced to leave when the area "coming up".

I know that there were folks that had hopes of that space being a more open space for the neighborhood somehow, but it is also an extremely expensive building to rent. I imagine that the food and drinks will likewise be pretty pricey.

I've yet to try the place, but I'm all for new buisnesses getting going in the area. As far as I'm concerned, gentrification is another word for 'the neighborhood is improving'.
