The Inquirer + Trump = ?

The entire process that is forcing casinosinto Philadelphia grows more disturbing everyday.We need to know aboutthe real story ofwhat casinos are and how they may end up in our backyards. Accurate and fair distributionofinformation is essential, which is why the relationship between Philly's largest newpsaper and the Trump Casino is upsetting.

This article is from the Philadelphia Independent Media Center and explains Brian Tierney's (the new owner of the Philadelphia Inquirer) investment into the proposed Trump Casino. If selected as one of the casinos to be built in Phiily, the Trump Casino will belocated in the Nicetown/East Falls neighborhoods. With plans tobuy and shutdownthe nearby Tastykake factoryas part of casino expansion, there is potential for a significant loss of jobs in the area.

With so much on the line, it is important to knowif the Inquirer can report fairly on casinos.

I think this is a really important point. I cannot believe how deeply tied in Tierney is to the proposed Trumpstreet casino. I very much support the Operation Transparency campaign of Casino Free Philadelphia. The lack of transparency of the PA gaming control board would be a perfect opportunity for some good investigative journalism from Philadelphia's major news outlets. But with owners like Tierney it's no wonder these issues are not accurately covered.
