People's meeting on the Philadelphia Parking Authority

I have met this group and they have a sincere grievance on the PPA, just like taxi drivers do. Do you think this agency represents the City of Brotherly Love? Do you think your car should be towed for $150 plus ticket when 6 officials from the PPA watched you park in an illegal space and not one told you not to, and while one hides behind a pole calling a tow truck parked around the corner waiting for you to leave? And while you cannot afford to pay the fees to get your car back, storage charges and interest are piling up, and before long they are auctioning your car off to the highest bidder, and sending collection agencies after you? Then you finally buy a another car and it is booted for failure to pay for the previous fines! The next day you read in the paper how the city is benefiting from screwing its residents.

"Chance to complain about PPA

A citizens' group calling itself the People's Choice Movement Coalition is planning a two-hour public meeting this weekend to air public grievances against the Philadelphia Parking Authority.

Lawrence Clark, one of the organizers, said the group was urging creation of an independent review board to audit the authority's practices and policies, including contracts, hiring practices and enforcement policies.

The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Berean Institute, 19th Street and Girard Avenue. To register call 215-224-0727, or send notice to peopleschoicemovement @yahoo.com by Thursday.
