Tell Senator Kitchen No Slots on Credit

Neighbors and organizations fighting plans to develop two casinos in Philadelphia delivered foreclosure signs to State Senator Shirley M. Kitchen on Nov, 12th. Senator Kitchen is co-sponsoring a piece of legislation currently going through the State house that would allow the granting of credit and loans by casinos on the gaming floors.

Casino lobbyist say the practice is industry standard, necessary to support table games. Neighbors and anti-casino advocates however are concerned about the prospect of casinos becoming lending institutions in Pennsylvania. The concerned is heightened by the continued rates of unemployment and economic turmoil experienced throughout the city and state. The legalization of new forms of debt in the current economy seems to be an unhealthy step toward economic recovery.

The Philadelphia delegation to the state legislature has thus far shown support for the bill, though casinos in Philadelphia have received continued community opposition.
